Heart of Lions have named Bashir Hayford as their new head coach, succeeding Fatawu Salifu, who was relieved of his duties.
Salifu, who masterminded the club’s return to the top flight after eight years, faced challenges on the grand stage, failing to secure a single win before his sacking earlier this month.
With only eight points from 13 games and languishing at the bottom of the table, Heart of Lions found themselves early relegation candidates. The decision to bring in Hayford is a strategic move by the club to reverse their fortunes and steer clear of relegation.

Hayford has a history with the club, having previously coached Hearts of Lions from 2004 to 2006, leading them to promotion to the Ghana Premier League in 2005. Following his stint at Lions, he went on to achieve success with Kotoko, winning the Ghana Premier League in the 2006/07 season, and later securing another league title with AshantiGold.
He returns to Hearts of Lions after 16 years with the task of revitalizing the team’s performance in the top flight. His first challenge will be against his former club, Legon Cities, in an away game. The appointment signals the club’s commitment to a resurgence under Hayford’s leadership.
