Kumasi: ‘Thugs clash with police during NDC regional polls’
The police had to fire warning shots in a standoff between unidentified thugs at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regional executive elections at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the Ashanti Region.
Two individuals who reportedly suffered injuries have now sought medical attention and also been discharged.
What happened in the subsequent brawl, which occurred on Sunday at the stadium’s main gate, remains unknown.
Top security officials rushed to the scene to talk about the problem with the party leadership.
Due to security concerns, the police were forced to remove their personnel from the main gate.
The incident had no effect on the election.
The opposition NDC is electing new executives to steer the affairs of the party in the Ashanti Region.
At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, almost 1,500 delegates gathered for what many have described as tense election.
