Ghanaian musician and songwriter Martin King Arthur, popularly known as Kofi Kinaata, has said that his annual ‘Made in Tadi’ concert is not taking place this Christmas because he was unable to secure a venue.
The concert is an annual Christmas jam in Takoradi in the Western Region. The Takoradi Jubilee Park, which hosted the first and second concerts is now serving as a vibrant market grounds due to renovation works at the Takoradi Market Circle.
“We did not get a venue,” Kinaata said on The Asaase Breakfast Show.
“Jubilee Park is now a market; it’s now a temporary market because of the current state of the Market Circle and there is some ongoing construction at Poly Park.”
He added that the Jubilee Park could not even contain the crowd, so there was no other option but to postpone the event. Nevertheless, there would be many shows in Takoradi for the Christmas celebrations.
“Even if we do it at the Jubilee Park the roads still get blocked but anyways, there will be many shows. But aside from my show, there are programmes lined up, and everywhere would be full, so everyone should come regardless.”
Fanbase
Kinaata said his fanbase is huge in Takoradi because they easily connect with the Fante language. According to him, they support him because he is able to convey messages in a language they can understand better and because he represents the Fante culture.
“The people of Takoradi have realised that I have many advantages to switching to Twi, but I feel I should represent where I come from so we share something in common. I represent them, and they are also supporting me to sell them out to the world, and I am still on it (portraying the Takoradi culture).”
