A 14-hour curfew has been imposed on the Bomaa township in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region following a chieftaincy dispute.
According to the Ahafo Regional Security Council, the curfew starts at 5pm and ends 7am.
Speaking in an interview with Asaase News, an aide to the Ahafo regional minister, George Yaw Boakye, said the decision was taken in consultation with the interior ministry and the regional security council.
“The regional minister held an emergency meeting on 9 January 2023, in consultation with the Interior Minister, the National Security Minister, and the leadership of the Ahafo REGSEC, and officially imposed a curfew on the citizens of Bomaa,” Boakye said.
He hinted that the curfew hours will be reviewed in the coming days.
“The briefing that we have had is that the community is cooperating with the security agencies, and so … tomorrow morning, 11 January 2023, there will be another emergency REGSEC meeting whether to relax or to also hold the curfew to ensure that total calm is brought to Bomaa,” he said.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (10 January), the spokesperson of the local police in Ahafo, Inspector Kojo Boakye, said investigations have begun into the circumstances that led to the death of the 40-year-old teacher during the clash.
