The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed that all party flags in its offices across the country should fly at half-mast for the next seven days in honour of the memory of former Old Tafo Member of Parliament Dr Anthony Akoto Osei.

Dr Akoto Osei passed away on Monday, March 20 after a short illness.

Until his death, the former Minister of State had been a staunch member of the ruling party, having been a pillar in Parliament for 20 years.

The party said it received the news of his death with “profound shock and disbelief”.

“He was also a renowned statesman having served this country with distinction as a Minister of State at the Finance Ministry during the Kufuor administration, and later as a Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation in the first term of the Akufo-Addo administration,” a statement issued by National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim said.

It eulogized the deceased member as one who “embodied humility, dedication and selflessness in his service to party and country”.

As a result, his memory is being honoured with the gesture for flags to fly at half-mast for seven days.

“May the soul of our dearly departed find comfort in God’s bosom, and may the family he left behind, and indeed, all of us in the party and beyond find fortitude to bear this great loss.”
