The New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership in the Ashanti Region, has directed all its regional chairpersons in the 47 constituencies in the region to remove all posters, banners, and other paraphernalia of the former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen from their party offices following his resignation from the NPP on Monday 25 September 2023.
In a memo dated (25 September), signed by the Ashanti Regional chairman of the NPP, Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako and addressed to all constituency chairpersons in the Ashanti Region, the party says Mr Kyerematen’s posters and flyers no longer serve any purpose at the offices of the party since he has resigned from the NPP.
“In view of Hon. Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the party, all his posters, banners, flyers and paraphernalia at our party offices in all the constituencies must be removed with immediate effect. Once he has forfeited his membership, it is just right and fair that these items are removed from our offices” the memo signed by Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako read.
Kyerematen officially resigned from the New patriotic Party on Monday barely a month after withdrawing from the party’s flagbearer race. He has since declared his intention to contest the 2024 presidential election as an independent candidate.
Speaking at a media engagement on Monday (25 September), Kyerematen said his decision will present an opportunity to the party to participate in a national unity government.
“I wish to use this opportunity to assure the rank and file of the NPP that I still very much cherish my relationship with you., and I am committed to the ideals of the founding fathers of the party,” he said.
“My decision to contest as an independent candidate will not destroy the NPP, but rather provide the party an opportunity to participate in a government of national unity,” Kyerematen added.
This is the second time Mr Kyerematen has quit from the NPP.
Mr Kyerematen’s recent departure from the NPP comes barely a month after he withdrew from the flagbearer race.
