Cape Coast airport to be completed before end of second term – Transport Minister assures

Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah is assuring residents of Cape Coast that the much-anticipated airport will be completed before the end of President Akufo-Addo’s second term.

The Minister explained that the President’s promise to build an airport and a harbour for the people of Cape Coast is not an empty one but based on a definite plan that is steadily on course.

According to the Minister, feasibility studies are currently ongoing to identify suitable site for the project.

Addressing traditional authorities at the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah assured residents that the project would be completed before the end of the second term of the NPP.

“I am making a firm promise that by the end of the 4 years, the airport would be built,” he stressed.

In addition he said that,

“If it emerges that we should build one in Cape Coast and one in the Western Region, the government would be committed to it.

Also, if it emerges that we should combine the two and build a huge airport to serve both regions, we shall do so.”

He believes that the prospects of the two regions in terms of tourism and other potentials merit the construction of the airport.

He was excited that the successful completion of the project will enable tourists to fly directly to any of the two regions from outside the country for tourism and other business-related purposes.

“The tourists could just land in Cape Coast or Takoradi to transact their businesses or tour our cities,” he noted.

For the construction of the harbour, Mr. Asiamah indicated that the first term of their administration saw the construction of fishing harbours at Moree, Gomoa West, Senya Bereku, Gomoa Fetteh and other places and they would do more for the fishing communities.

He further revealed that one is currently underway at Elmina with the addition of two more fish landing sites at Ekumfi and Mfantseman.

“This is to help our fisherfolks in their work and support the entire region,” he stated.
