Ghana’s (EC) Electoral Commission has confirmed the opening of nominations for the constituency of Mfantseman.
This became inevitable as a result of the death of Ekow Quansah Hayord, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Mfantseman Constituency.
In a tweet, the EC said it would obtain nominations for the Mfantseman constituency on Tuesday 20 October and Wednesday 21 October.
In compliance with Regulation 13, Sub-regulation (4) of the Public Elections Legislation, 2020 (C.I 127), ‘A further time of ten (10) days shall be provided for nominations where, at the close of nominations, but before the referendum, one candidate dies.’
Therefore, in order to facilitate the substitution of the candidate, the Electoral Commission is expanding the nominating cycle for the Mfantseman constituency in the Central Region.
Furthermore, the Commission notes that any person wishing to run for a parliamentary election shall give the completed Nomination Form to the Returning Officer of the Constituency of Mfantseman at the Mfantseman District Office of the Electoral Commission on the dates referred to above.
The nominations will be submitted by the Returning Officer between 7.00 am and 5.00 pm on both days.
