The Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) has rendered an unqualified apology to Ghanaians on behalf of Ghanaian actor Yaw Dabo over a statement he made recently.
In an interview last month, Yaw Dabo, made some unpleasant comments concerning people who watch movies for long hours.
According to him, only lazy people spend more than an hour watching movies as they must work to make money.
“Where the world is going now, everything is about money. So, anyone who will sit for an hour to watch a movie is a lazy person,” he told radio personality Saddick Adams in an interview.
This comment made some Ghanaians react to his statement, with some claiming that his words can make people lose interest in watching Ghanaian movies.
The Ghana Movie Industry is on the verge of collapsing as most people resort to foreign Telenovelas compared to local movies; hence others are calling on the actor to render an apology publicly for making such a comment.
In a press release signed by the president of the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG), Mr Yaw Aboagye, on February 2, 2023, he said the association believes the comment made by their member was unsavoury and hopes such behaviour will not repeat itself within the movie industry.
The Association, therefore, admonished Yaw Dabo not to repeat the same offence when he is given a chance to speak on any other media platform.
