Galamsey: 30 excavators seized, 8 suspects arrested
Personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces deployed in the country’s fight against illegal mining, forest reserves, and water bodies have so far seized at least 30 excavators.
Eight persons were arrested during the operation, which took place between October 11 and October 30, in connection with illegal mining.
A statement issued by the Ghana Armed Forces said the operation also resulted in the destruction of four excavators, while another four were immobilized on site.
During the series of operation within a three-week period, the teams destroyed 103 Changfan machines, nine water pumping machines, five generator sets, two fuel storage tanks and other improvised mining equipment and structures. Additionally, the operation Halt II teams seized six motorbikes and one motor king tricycle.
In respect of arrest at Banda Nkwanta in the Northern Command Area of operational responsibility, the Operation Halt II team arrested eight suspected illegal miners and handed them over to the Banda Nkwanta District Police Station.
