John Paintsil, a former Ghanaian international, has urged Black Stars coach Chris Hughton to appoint James Kwasi Appiah to work in his coaching squad.
The former defender feels that Appiah’s involvement with the national team will be beneficial to Hughton’s coaching.
Hughton just assumed the position of Black Stars head coach, taking over after Otto Addo.
Before taking over as Ghana’s head coach, the former manager of Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest served as the country’s technical advisor.
However, Appiah, who previously served as the Black Stars’ head coach from 2012 to 2014 and from 2017 to 2019, is currently unattached.
Paintsil, who played for Ghana at several tournaments, including two World Cups, believes a coaching partnership between Hughton and Appiah will yield AFCON trophies.
“What he needs to do is to have someone like Kwasi Appiah,” Paintsil said, as quoted by Footballghana.
“When Chris Hughton get Kwasi Appiah in his team, they can even win the Nations Cup back-to-back because, him having that experience, and Kwesi Appiah also having that experience and also knowing the culture of the game, I think that will be all.”
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that Hughton will be assisted by George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.
