Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said Ghana Card numbers will be issued to newborn babies at birth from 31st March.
The number will be a special identity for every child throughout his/her education journey and not wait till 15 years before registration.
Bawumia announced this at a breast cancer awareness programme at Accra Newtown last Wednesday.
The event was jointly organised by the Breast Care International and the Office of the Vice President to sensitise women on the need to regularly check and screen their breasts for early detection of cervical cancer for treatment.
The Vice President stated that the Ghana Card number would be a unique identity that would be carried by every child from birth throughout his or her education journey, rather than waiting until the age of 15 to register.
Dr Bawumia also talked about the government’s digital programs and initiatives, such as the digital property addressing system, medical drone delivery centres, and mobile money interoperability payment system.
He encouraged the public to support the government’s digital transformation agenda, as he believed it would promote the ease of doing business and enhance service delivery in Ghana.
Founder of the Breast Care International and Peace and Love Hospitals, Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe-Addai, paid tribute to women worldwide for standing up for their civic rights and drawing attention to injustices against women in deprived communities.
