Harry Kane wins Golden Boot

Harry Kane and Gareth Bale combined to ruin Leicester’s Champions League hopes on Sunday, but talk quickly turned to what this summer holds for the two Tottenham forwards.

Kane had already apparently made his intentions clear before scoring his 23rd goal of the season at the King Power Stadium – a tally that gives him his third Premier League Golden Boot award.

The 27-year-old England captain has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ in place to leave the club – and has even formally asked to go according to reports.

Bale is likely to follow him out of the door, by the sounds of it, with the Welshman telling reporters after Sunday’s two-goal match-winning display that he has decided his future but will not say until after Euro 2020 as it will “cause chaos”.

Having gone into Sunday’s game level on 22 goals for the season with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Kane’s goal in the 4-2 win at Leicester – which sealed their place in the Europa Conference League – secured Kane the Golden Boot trophy.

It is the third time he has won it, with previous wins coming in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

He now has 221 Tottenham goals to his name, leaving him second in their all-time goalscorers’ list behind Jimmy Greaves, who scored 266 times for the club between 1961 and 1970.

Kane is known to be frustrated after another trophy-less campaign, which included the sacking of manager Jose Mourinho in April just before they lost the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City.

Speaking on The Overlap with Gary Neville recently, he said he would not want to end his career with “any regrets” and would “have a good, honest conversation with the chairman”.

“I’m not a body language expert but Harry Kane could be saying he will not be a Spurs player next year.”

This was the observation of BBC pundit Martin Keown as he observed the Tottenham forward at full-time at the King Power on Sunday.

In truth, Kane gave nothing away directly in the aftermath of the game, which saw him collect his Golden Boot, offering just a simple thanks on social media later.

“Great to get a win to finish the season. Been a tough season for lots of reasons but thanks for all the support it’s always appreciated and thanks for the fans awards,” Kane tweeted.
