If NDC Was Engaged In Rawlings’ Funeral Arrangements, It Would Have Been Better – Otukonor

Peter Boamah Otokunor, deputy Secretary General of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has noted that the NDC was exempted from the funeral organization by the late Former President, Jerry John Rawlings.
He said that if the NDC had been engaged in the government’s planning, the ongoing ceremony would have been better off coordinated.

Mr. Otokunor said these in an interview with TV3’s Komla Adom after filing past the remains of the deceased at the Accra International Conference Centre on Monday January 25.

“Some of us are a reflection of what he stood for and so we are in deep sorrow , we are very sad. We think that the nation has lost greatly , some of us have lost very greatly.

“We are inspired for the fact that Rawlings left us something, an unfinished business, an unfinished service to the nation  which we have to continue .

“We would have wished to honour Rawlings in a more better  and greater , more friendly and inclusive way  than what we have seen the government  lead us to. There are few problems with family  and government , and the government deliberately  and consciously excluding the NDC , a political Party that he founded.”

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the NDC Electoral Director, said that the late former President Rawlings, used state resources to serve the people of Ghana when he was the head of state.

After passing the remains of the NDC’s late founder, he told TV3’s Komla Adom that at Ghanaians’ expense,  Mr. Rawlingsnever acquired wealth.
He said that, as some critics argued, the former military leader has no houses distributed across the world.
“Rawlings came into politics to serve the society, he used state resources to benefit the people,” he said.
He further called on Ghanaians to live by the probity and accountability, principles of Mr Rawlings.
“These are values that have come to stay, So when people come into politics they should use the state resources to serve the people.”
