The Ghana Education Service (GES) after announcing for final year students to take an academic break from July 20, 2021, to July 26, 2021, has asked heads of Senior High Schools (SHSs) not to allow boarding students to go home.
GES’ new directive comes after the Ghana Health Service (GHS) following the mid-semester break suggested for students to remain on campus as part of efforts to slow and curb the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
The Health Service in a statement copied to bibinionline.com said the SHS mid-semester break for the final year students may present a challenge to the already defenceless situation of Covid in schools and the general population.
“The scheduled period should be maintained but the midterm break should be restricted to campus and boarding students must not be allowed to go home,” the Ghana Health Service (GHS) stated in the release.
According to the Education Service, academic activities when paused on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, will resume on Monday, July 26, 2021, for the students preparing to sit for the 2021 WASSCE for School examination.
Regional Directors of Education and Heads of Senior High Schools and (SHS) have been urged to communicate the new update to students, parents and members of the general public.
