Shalimar Abbiusi, a spokeswoman for the New Force, a new political movement, has been rearrested after a charge against her of obtaining a student permit with a false declaration was withdrawn.
Abbiusi is expected to be deported to her native country, Belgium, after being arraigned last week for allegedly presenting false documents presenting her as a student of the Ghana Christian University College, in order to obtain a residence permit.
The case was expected to go to full trial on Tuesday (19 December) after Abbiusi was granted bail of GHC20,000 last week.
When the case was presented in court, prosecutors from the immigration service led by ACI Adolf Aboagye Asenso told the court that they had instructions to withdraw the case.
However, a lawyer for Abbiusi, Francis Xavier Sosu, has accused the immigration service of plotting to deport his client.
“You came to the court and said that you have asked that the charges against the person be dropped. The charges are dropped and the person is discharged. Then you bundle the person as if she is a common criminal here …” Sosu said.
Earlier, a district court in Kaneshie granted bail in the sum of GHC20,000 with two sureties to Abbiusi after she pleaded not guilty to obtaining a student permit by false declaration.
