The Ashanti regional police command has impounded a total of 15 tankers allegedly involving in the adulteration of fuel loaded from the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to the Kumasi Bulk Oil storage depot.
In addition, one person has been arrested by the police with seven other fuel tanker drivers being chased by the security agency for dealing in the shady business.
According to information gathered, the arrested tanker driver after loading the fuel from TOR parked at a secret location to offload some quantity of the fuel.
He subsequently, mixed the remaining fuel with some unknown chemicals in order to make excess profit from the product.
At the Kumasi Bulk Oil storage depot, security at the checkpoint while inspecting the incoming product detected that some drivers have adulterated their fuel.
As a result, management was informed to contact the police. The crime scene experts from the Ashanti regional command made up of six officers on arrival at the scene arrested one of the tanker drivers who is suspected to have adulterated his fuel with the unknown chemicals.
Subsequently, different samples of suspected adulterated fuel have been taken away by the police investigators for laboratory tests.
Meanwhile, the driver arrested is in police custody to help with investigations to lead to the arrest of anybody involved.
