Ghana coach Chris Hughton laments missed opportunities as the Black Stars suffer a 1-0 defeat to Comoros in Moroni during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.

Hughton contends that Ghana were the superior side but attributes the loss to their inability to convert chances.

The lone goal came in the 43rd minute, a brilliant solo effort by Myziane Maolida. Despite Ghana’s dominance, missed opportunities plagued their performance, with Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams and Jordan Ayew squandering chances.

Reflecting on the match, Hughton congratulated Comoros for the victory but asserted, “In my opinion over the 90 minutes, we were the better team. I thought Ghana were the better team.” He expressed dissatisfaction with the conceded goal and the team’s failure to capitalize on their chances.

“This was not a game where Comoros won comfortably. Over the 90 minutes, we were the better team but unfortunately, we were not able to put away the chances that we created,” Hughton emphasized.

Ghana, now in third place, missed an opportunity to go top of the group. Comoros lead with two wins in two games, followed by Mali in second place. Black Stars, with three points after two games, must redirect their focus to the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, slated to commence in January 2024.
