The Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has lifted a ban on the wearing of smock in Bawku ahead of the annual Samanpiid festival of the chiefs and people of the Kusaug Traditional Area.
The REGSEC said the restriction has been lifted for only 30th December, 2022, following extensive deliberation on the matter.
The curfew hours and riding of motorbikes, the REGSEC noted, however, remain enforced.
It said residents are allowed to use motor tricycles and buses to commute around the town.
The REGSEC added that its decisions are based on the need to continuously protect the relative peace in the area.
It appealed to the Kusaug Traditional Council to lend its fullest support to restore lasting peace to the area.
Meanwhile, security presence in the towns and their surroundings has been intensified.
