President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced on Sunday, January 3, 2021 that all SHS 3 and SHS 1 students will no longer run the double-track system.
Kindagarten, primary and Junior high school students, both private and public will return to school on January 15.
All SHS 1 students will start classes from March 10.

However, the double-tracksystem will be applicable to SHS 2 students in school.
Announcing the reopening of schools in the country in his 21st address to the nation, President Akufo-Addo explained that his government has been able to embark on infrastructural development in the various senior high schools (SHS), a situation that compels the government to gradually cancel the double track system.
The system was introduced due to the high number of enrolments into the SHS’s following the implementation of the free senior high school program.
President Akufo-Addo revealed that SHS students in Form Two and Three will return to school on January 18.
This is because of the expansion of infrastructure at the various senior high schools, he added.
University students will, however, begin the school year early. The President announced they are to return to school on Saturday, January, 2021.
The reopening of schools comes nine months after the President ordered the closure of all educational institutions on March 15, 2020.
This was part of government’s plans to ensure that the Covid-19 which was spreading at an alarming rate in the country at the time was effectively managed.
