Following the Accra Circuit Court’s order to remand rapper Medikal in police jail, the 2021 Suncity Music Festival has been postponed.
On Saturday, October 23, the ‘Ayekoo’ hitmaker was slated to perform at the event in Sunyani, Bono Region.
Along with his colleague and Afrobeats musician Kelvyn Boy, he was set to headline the MTN-sponsored event.
Kelvyn Boy took to his social media channels shortly after Medikal’s detention to announce that the event had been postponed and that a new date would be announced later.
“Sorry Sunyani !!We Will Have To Reschedule This One.A New Date Will Be Communicated Soon !!”, he wrote.
Meanwhile, the rapper will be unable to attend another event at which he was scheduled to perform alongside Tulenkey. On Friday, October 22, the Jagger Rave Concert was scheduled to take place in Obuasi.
Following his arrest the day before, Medikal was remanded in detention for five days by an Accra Circuit court on Friday, October 22.
The musician, whose real name is Samuel Adu Frimpong, was charged with illegally displaying guns and ammunition, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Prior to the hearing, the rapper’s wife, Fela Makafui, and other members of his management team were seen in the courthouse.
In the midst of a huge security presence, he was whisked away in a police pick-up vehicle.
Medikal was arrested on Thursday, just hours after Shatta Wale, a fellow musician and friend, was remanded in detention for one week.
The self-proclaimed dancehall king was detained on charges of distributing false information.
On Monday, October 18, he reportedly made up a tale that he had been shot and was seeking treatment, which turned out to be a fabrication.
The polarizing performer has pleaded not guilty to the accusation.
