Eight people have picked nomination forms to contest in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries for the Kumawu constituency seat.

This comes after the Speaker of Parliament declared the seat vacant following the demise of the lawmaker Philip Basoah in March after a short illness.

Among the eight aspirants is Yaw Baah, former MP.

This will be Yaw Baah’s second attempt of a bye-election after winning in 2002 and exiting in 2012.

The NPP’s first vice chairman of the Kumawu Constituency, Appiah Kubi is also eyeing the seat.

Lawyer Edward Osei, formerly of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority who lost in the 2020 NPP parliamentary primaries in the constituency, is back to compete again.

Dr Aboagye Dacosta of the Ghana Health Service has also picked his form and also another medical practitioner Dr Philip Bannor, from HeFRA is also contesting.

Nana Ama Serwaa, who works at the Ministry of Education is the only woman who is reported to have picked a form at the moment.

Ernest Yaw Anim, who failed to secure the DCE job in 2021 is hoping to secure the Kumawu seat for the ruling NPP.

Last but not least is Osei Bempah, a member of the NPP communication team, who has also picked his form.
