Some Ghanaians have registered their displeasure with the Minister for Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful for naming a facility after her mother.
The facility, which is a library and a tech hub constructed at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region was named after the mother of the Minister, Christina Akua Brago Diawuo, and was unveiled on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
The Christina Akua Brago Diawuo Library and Tech Hub was constructed at the instance of the Minister but supported by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Huawei Ghana, MTN Ghana, and the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA).
Taking to social media to explain why the facility of was named after her mother, Ursula Owusu wrote, “recounting my past and acknowledging the contributions of my mother, Christina Akua Brago Diawuo, which has propelled me to my current state, I can only be thankful.”
”Thank you, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for joining me to inaugurate ‘The Christina Akua Brago Diawuo Library and Technology hub’ at Akim Oda, an honor to my mother,” she added.
The naming of the facility after the mother of the Minister has infuriated a section of Ghanaians who believe that Ursula Owusu has no right to name a public facility after whom she deems fit.
Venting their displeasure on social media, some Ghanaians noted that this is another evidence of the rampant state capture by some government officials.
